Element Technica, pioneering designer and manufacturer of 3D Rigs that make it possible for any professional crew to create stereoscopic 3D images, announces it has sold several Quasar 3D Rigs to Video Equipment Rentals (VER), a leading video equipment supplier with offices throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

The Quasar 3D rigs act as a platform for professional equipment rental houses to then build a state-of-the art 3D acquisition system tailored to their client’s needs. "VER is taking a very proactive approach," said Stephen Pizzo, Element Technica co-founder. "Within days of delivery, VER technicians had set up several rigs with the latest broadcast and digital cinema cameras from Sony while routing the signal through their complete 3D viewing and switching infrastructure, making for a very impressive display."

Wayne Miller, GM of VER, pointed to the momentum building for 3D production. "Our client base is pretty broad, and all of them are asking about 3D. Some of those markets are more interested than others, but they’re all at least going to dip their toes into the 3D waters in the coming year."

"We must have the best solutions for our clients, and certainly the Element Technica 3D rigs are part of that tool chest of 3D solutions we need to provide."

The Technica 3D rigs precisely position two video cameras to simulate the left and right eye view for stereoscopic photography. Technica 3D rigs provide for configuring the cameras either in a side-by-side or beam-splitter arrangement. “This is important for rental companies,” noted Pizzo, “because now a given set of rigs can be easily reconfigured to suit any style of shooting depending on customer demand.” The changeover takes only minutes.

“Our goal is to make 3D available to the masses,” said Miller. “Producing in 3D has been available to an elite few in the past, and viewable only in specially equipped theaters. But consumer companies are talking about selling tens of millions of 3D television sets, which is going to require a lot of programming. Much of that programming is going to be live events. We want to be able to supply production crews at all levels the tools to produce in 3D.”

Miller noted that there’s an educational component that needs to be provided as well. “3D training programs are a major part of our new Production Technology Center. We have to get out there and educate people on what it takes to not just make 3D, but to make good 3D.”
