Pulsar from 3ality Technica
The 3ality Technica Pulsar 3D rig is designed to provide stereoscopic mounting of mid-sized high resolution digital cameras, with ENG-style or PL lenses, in a full-function 3D rig. The Pulsar can be configured in side-by-side and beamsplitter mode (both over/thru and under/thru), and can be quickly reconfigured from one mode to the other.
Among the mid-sized and box-style cameras that can be mounted on a Pulsar rig are the Scarlet, Epic, SI-2K, Sony EX3 and P1 to name a few. By allowing a production to use these smaller form-factor cameras in their productions, more portable camera support equipment such as tripods, jib-arms and miniature dollies can be utilized. The Pulsar provides the same stereoscopic control of interocular and convergence as is available on the large camera Quasar and small camera Neutron rigs, either via wired or wireless linking with the 3ality Technica Hand Controller (THC).
The Pulsar can also be interfaced with stereoscopic optimization processors such as the Sony MPE-200, which allows them to be quickly integrated into multi-camera productions.
For crane, dolly, camera car, stabilizer and handheld operation of the Pulsar, bumping and jostling are the norm. The Pulsar maintains rock-solid rigidity through its construction from aircraft-grade CNC machined aluminum as well as stainless steel and carbon fiber. The compact design of the Pulsar yields a 3D rig of the lowest possible weight.
The same small tool-kit and setup and alignment procedures are employed with all members of the 3ality Technica family of rigs, including the Pulsar. An experienced 2D assistant trained on one of the rigs can apply that knowledge to the whole family of rigs.
